Content is Content, Christ is King

We live in an era where a popular slogan suggests that “content is king.” Social media influencers, marketers, and business owners have been selling the idea, or have been sold the idea, that content is king.

Unfortunately, when the world is sold on the idea that content is king, it reduces the value of what it means to be a king, and people tend to forget that the actual King is Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

The last time I checked, Jesus is King.

The enemy is so cunning that, for the sake of views, followers, and ultimately, money, people are willing to substitute Christ, the King, with content. So much that people are willing to mock the King of kings and Lord of lords to create content.

After all, if content is king, who is Jesus?

Sadly, we are at a time when the world seems to have greater influence on the church. Countless churchgoers who call themselves Christians have brought the world’s lifestyle into the church to boost their social media reach.

What should be sacred grounds are reduced to sporadic film studios for shooting content under the guise of reaching lost souls.

One of the trends that have entered the church is one where a member of the congregation uses a seemingly ‘tainted’ cloth to snuff out the unsuspecting person, dragging them into the church. The idea is that, like the world, they are getting people into the church by any means necessary.

There is an apparent lack of guidance for the young people, and it gives the impression that some who call themselves shepherds have turned a blind eye to the wolf hidden behind this marketing strategy.

Then there is the tagging of the pastors. Where the pastor is speaking, and several members place something on his back, supposedly without him noticing.

Clearly, the church is reduced to a big playground where all sorts of fun and games are expected and accepted as social media strategies.

The fear of God is so evidently absent that people have no reverence for the Creator of the universe nor His house.

Predominantly, young people who have not been taught to fear God are running the churches, and elected pastors, elders, and members are either too busy raising funds or too afraid to put an end to these disrespectful practices.

At one particular church, the young people put on a movie night where the attire is pajamas and Crocs. This is no different from the world, and I had to take several looks at the poster to see if the church venue, which should be sacred ground, was on the poster by mistake.

But more than that, it’s the church board that approves such atrocities that is a cause for concern more than anything else. In addition, the members sit in silence on their way to hell.

Several other apparent social media strategies and trends are affecting the church, but let’s look at one that is very popular.

People who have subscribed to the mantra that content is king are having a blast with the Bible. Much to the devil’s delight, they make a mockery of God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the angels, and the people in the Bible.

They play around, pretending they are doing something and that God is speaking directly to them. The portrayal of the language that God supposedly speaks, His voice, and character are so disrespectful; even if they were pretending they were speaking to Satan himself, much more so to the Holy God.

The costumes, the messages they are sending, and just the thought of them believing they could stand before God and do what they are doing is despicable. This is evidence that those who are ‘acting’ as God have no idea who He is.

While I am concerned about these ignorant folks, I am even more concerned with the people they are influencing through these videos.

The wool has been so tightly drawn over their eyes that they see nothing wrong with pretending to be the One who created them.

Doing all sorts of skits and acting the parts they believe that the great God of the universe would be saying. While angels in heaven are busy bowing down to the Almighty and crying, “Holy, holy, holy,” barefaced sinners have reduced worship to mere mockery.

I remember a popular social media ‘influencer’ who loved dressing up and acting ‘like’ God. experienced a mental breakdown in the public’s eye. While I am not saying that mental episode was a result of what the person was doing, apart from sympathizing and praying for the person, I also reached out via social media and suggested that they be careful about the content they were posting. While I am not perfect, we are called to be our brothers’ keepers.

Unfortunately, I can’t tell you much about what takes place in these videos because, out of fear for God, I get very uncomfortable watching the clay portraying the Potter.

Again, perhaps the worst part is the followers and viewers of this type of content. But if there weren’t an audience for this type of content, people would have stopped making it.

Truthfully, there always will be an audience that is willing to laugh at an effort to humiliate the Saviour. Just ask the crowd who asked for Barabbas and who mocked Him at the crucifixion.

People these days are so naive and gullible that they’ll do anything for attention. Even if it means belittling the Master by pretending to be Him.

But woe be unto us who believe that content is king, and that getting a few laughs at the expense of God being the butt of the joke is not that serious.

Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep. Luke 6:25

But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Proverbs 1:25-27

Old-time people used to say who laughs last laughs best. Let’s see who will have the last laugh!!!

Individuals, parents, families, communities, schools, and the church must return to a place where the family altar is resurrected, children are taken to church, and agencies recognize and revere the sovereignty of God.

We can’t expect young people to respect God if they don’t know who He is. Additionally, adults should readily correct the younger folks and help them to understand that the One who died for all of us, including them, is not a joking matter.

So there are no misunderstandings; content has its place, even in the church. By the power of the Holy Spirit, sharing the gospel message through social media has won and will continue to win many souls for the kingdom of God. However, specific people should be appointed to capture footage for social media so everything is done decently and in order.

Most importantly, we should do all things for the glory of God.

As God continues to be merciful to all of us, may we not take His mercies for granted.
