Whether you are an avid reader or this is your first time reading, this post is the beginning of a series of Biblical lessons I will share throughout this blog. This is the first lesson in the series of life lessons taken from the Bible, so as soon as you are through with this one, you can go ahead and move on to Genesis 2.
- God is Creator
The first stand-alone lesson from Genesis 1 is, “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.” Contrary to unpopular beliefs, there was no Big Bang theory, no evolution, and we did not derive from Apes. God created this universe! This means God existed before the universe’s beginning, the earth, before everything.
- Don’t judge yourself by your first draft
Your first draft may not be the best, but it’s an essential part of the process. This is not to say that God needed a first draft, but if you noticed that when God created the earth, it was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. Imagine if God had stopped even before day one was completed. We wouldn’t even be able to imagine that because we wouldn’t be around to see it. After that, God said, Let there be light, and there was light. Things weren’t as dismal as they would seem at first. Following that, and even after sin, we can attest to Earth’s unfathomable beauty.
I think you have created something that can and will be beautiful, but because of how it looks, it’s been put aside, under the bed, or even in your mind—essentially in darkness. It’s time to pull it out, dust it off, and start working on your dream, relationship, or education again.

- Pace yourself
If God, who could have created the universe in the blink of an eye, took six days to do so, how much more should we be patient with our projects? Your six days could look like six months, six years, or even 60 years; the important thing is to pace yourself and not give up. Rome was not built in a day; break your projects into manageable hourly, daily, or weekly tasks. On the second day, God created the firmament; on the third, He separated the earth from the seas and brought forth grass; and on the fifth, He made great whales and fowl. It’s your turn to allocate the various aspects of your project.
- Encourage yourself
God did not need encouragement, and there was no one else to encourage Him. But what we learn throughout the creation process is that God encouraged Himself. When He came to the end of each day of creation, the scripture says that God saw that it was good. This has a two-fold lesson for us: first, encourage yourself in the tasks you accomplished today, and don’t wait for anyone to validate you or your work. The second lesson is to ensure you put in the work, because you cannot say your work is good if you didn’t do anything.
We also notice that on the sixth day, the end of creation, God saw that everything He had made was not just good but very good. While I will not say this means the Lord has made progress, it indicates that things will improve over time. As we complete the project, everything will come together, and all will see that it is very good—do not give up.

- Prepare for your offspring.
When man was created, everything he needed or would ever need was already prepared for him. God didn’t have to be in a hurry to provide man’s food, residence, water, or anything. This indicates that we should plan carefully before bringing children into the world. Too many people are having children irresponsibly. They have no idea how they will feed, clothe, or educate their children, and yet they continue to have unprotected sex, which results in multiple children.
This is not to say that if you get pregnant and you are not in a position to care for the child, you should terminate the pregnancy. No, not so! But we can all agree that the ideal is to ensure you make sufficient provision for the child you want to bring into this world. A pro lesson is that God gave man dominion. What spiritual, vocational, or financial foundation will you give your child dominion over? To take it further, what legacy will you leave your children?
We were given dominion over the earth and lost it through disobedience because of Satan. May we accept Jesus Christ now and be obedient to Him so that we can regain even more than we lost in the beginning.
